Kamiakin (ca. 1800 - 1877), Chief of Yakama Tribe,
1855

un poco fría is a not-for-profit bedroom label releasing micro-edition cassette tapes in often humble quantities - with an emphasis on exploring and sharing abstract sound worlds of experimental, concrète, noise and unprocessed in-situ field recordings located upon central Washington's plateau and along the rolling foothills and the Yakima River. The Cascade mountains shelter this central area from marine showers.

however small and insignificant - this label proudly resides in Yakima, on and around the Territories of the Confederaded Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation - which are covered by the Yakima Treaty of Camp Stevens - signed under duress on June 9, 1855. As fellow artists and musicians here in our community - we are thankful to the Yakama People and surrounding Tribes and Bands for allowing us to explore, and share these documented sounds - some created, others found - but always cherished and delivered from sacred land.

please join us in acknowledging that no matter where in this country you reside currently; the land that we are on today is the traditional territory of the Tribal Nations and the Homelands of the Native peoples who have lived in this region from time immemorial. Currently there are 29 Federally recognized Tribes that share Traditional Homelands & Waterways in what is now Washington State.
we express our deepest respect for, and gratitude towards these original and current Caretakers of these Lands.

we acknowledge that the disposition of Indigenous Lands was often taken by coercive and violent acts, and complete disregard of Treaties. we acknowledge the history of violence, displacement, colonial settlement and their many harmful legacies that have been largely ignored for over a century, and the plausible deniablitiy for continued poverty and gross injustices throughout the lands still to this day.  un poco fría chooses to acknowledge and honor the History and People of these Lands.
